FORTIFIED Wise University is the online training platform for professionals who work in or alongside the FORTIFIED program. Courses are developed by IBHS and cover every requirement for FORTIFIED Home designation, from construction standards and documentation to the independent verification process that makes the program credible. Certification through FORTIFIED Wise is the entry point to the FORTIFIED Provider Directory, and, as of November 2025, roofing contractors must hold current FORTIFIED Wise certification to install roofs eligible for official FORTIFIED designation.
There are three certification tracks depending on your role. The FORTIFIED program has two regional standards, Hurricane and High Wind, each determined by the design wind speed at the project location. An optional Hail Supplement can be added to either standard for homes in hail-prone markets. Your regional standard and the optional Hail Supplement apply across all three certification tracks.
FORTIFIED Roofing Contractor
For roofers and roofing companies who install roofs to the FORTIFIED standard. As of November 2025, a certified FORTIFIED roofing contractor is required on every FORTIFIED Roof project. At least one employee per company must hold a current certification. Unlike the Evaluator and Professional tracks, roofing contractor certification uses a single 2025 course covering both regional standards. Prerequisites include an approved roofing certification, a valid contractor or business license, at least seven years in business, and minimum insurance coverage.
FORTIFIED Evaluator
For independent third-party inspectors who verify and document FORTIFIED Home compliance. Evaluators are required on every residential FORTIFIED project. Without a certified evaluator, there is no designation. This track covers how to inspect, document, and submit a project to IBHS for certification. Select the course that matches your regional standard.
FORTIFIED Home Professional
For architects, engineers, builders, and other construction and design professionals who provide services to homeowners and project teams. This track covers FORTIFIED Roof, Silver, and Gold requirements in full. Roofing contractors should take the Roofing Contractor track, not this one. Select the course that matches your regional standard.
